CHERRY BOMBE 100:
Bakers & Makers
Women in the food world don’t just like Liz Prueitt of Tartine Bakery and Tartine Manufactory; they love her. She is admired for her talent and tenacity and her ability to tackle life’s challenges head on. Take her gluten intolerance. What do you do when you’re one of the country’s top pastry chefs and you’re told to stay away from gluten? You start experimenting with alternative grains and become a hero to those with food issues. Then there is her work on behalf of children. In 2012, Liz co-founded the Conductive Education Center of San Francisco (CECSF), a non-profit school for children with motor challenges. Liz’s daughter Archer, who has motor delays due to cerebral palsy, has been helped significantly by this program, inspiring Liz to bring this innovative approach within reach of Bay Area families. Liz is also the author of the Tartine cookbook and Tartine All Day: Modern Recipes for the Home Cook.
