Former server and publishing sensation Stephanie Danler was the beverage director at Chef Alex Raij’s Tía Pol when she had an idea for a novel set in the restaurant world. It would be a coming-of-age story about a 22-year-old named Tess who worked at a place similar to Union Square Cafe, where Stephanie worked when she first arrived in New York City. The result was Sweetbitter, the publishing phenom and international bestseller. Sweetbitter the TV show debuted on the STARZ network earlier this year, with Stephanie as the executive producer, and was renewed for a second season.
