Radio Cherry Bombe: Food For Thought
Kansas City, Missouri
Monday, November 4th
5 to 7 p.m.
On Monday, November 4th, join the Bombesquad at Corvino for the Kansas City stop on our "Food for Thought" Radio Cherry Bombe Tour. We'll be talking to Christina Corvino of Corvino, Caitlin Corcoran of Ça Va Champagne Bar, Megan Garrelts of bluestem & rye, and more local rockstars about their journeys through food. This panel will be recorded for a future episode of Radio Cherry Bombe.
Christina Corvino is the Co-Owner/General Manager/Sommelier of Corvino Supper Club & Tasting Room, which opened in March 2017 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Christina Corvino has lived a winding life of curiosity more than of a straight path. Her background includes nonprofit and for-profit fundraising, producing large entertainment events, developing marketing campaigns, leading humanitarian teams to West Africa, and she started out her professional life as a U.S. Air Force officer. This compilation perfectly prepared her for the multi-roles of running a restaurant. You'll find her hands in hospitality training, PR and marketing, the music program, all the fun (or tedious) details, and of course on the floor of the dining room almost every night.
She was recently named a 2019 James Beard Foundation Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Fellow and looks forward to collaborating with inspiring women from across the country. Outside of restaurant life, Christina's favorite days have her two children, family, friends, dogs, horses, sunshine, cheese, and a glass of something sparkly.
Kansas City native Caitlin Corcoran has dedicated much of her hospitality and beverage career to some of the most singular flavors in the world: coffee, agave, and most recently, Champagne. A sommelier certified by the Court of Master Sommeliers, Caitlin is the Managing Partner of Ça Va Champagne Bar.
She is also proud to continue to develop and practice her unique brand of radical inclusive hospitality, which coincides with her work supporting MOCSA (Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault), her role as a Board Member for Women in Hospitality United, and writing an Op-Ed piece for the James Beard Foundation’s Impact Series “What does it mean to be Safe in a restaurant?” Caitlin is also hungry to learn more and continue to grow as a business owner, and has been selected for both the James Beard Foundation Women Entrepreneurial Leadership Fellowship in 2018, and the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Fellowship in 2019.
A James Beard semifinalist for “Outstanding Pastry Chef” with recipes published in numerous national publications including Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, The Wall Street Journal, and Saveur, Megan Garrelts co-owns and operates Bluestem in Kansas City, a three-time semi-finalist for the James Beard Foundation’s “Outstanding Restaurant,” and Rye, with locations in Kansas City, MO and Leawood KS, alongside her husband, Colby. She also leads the pastry programs at both eateries, managing kitchen teams, evolving dessert menus, and ensuring consistency. Bluestem, with its progressive American tasting menus, and Rye, with its Midwest comfort fare and laid-back nature, both feature a sweet side inspired by Megan’s childhood that offers nostalgic dishes with homespun flavors.
