We'll be talking to Ellen Yin of High Street Hospitality Group, professional archaeologist and restaurateur Jill Weber, and more local rockstars about their journeys through food. This panel will be recorded for a future episode of Radio Cherry Bombe.
As the founder and co-owner of High Street Hospitality Group, restaurateur Ellen Yin operates four of the country’s most noteworthy restaurants and bars: Fork, High Street on Market, High Street Provisions, and a.kitchen+bar in Philadelphia, and High Street on Hudson in Manhattan. In 2019, Yin was nominated for the James Beard Foundation’s award for “Outstanding Restaurateur” for the second consecutive year; she was previously a semifinalist for the prestigious award in 2017.
Yin is also the author of Forklore: Recipes and Tales from an American Bistro, a thoughtful chronicle of her ongoing success at creating and maintaining a definitive American bistro in Philadelphia’s historic Old City. She is a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and currently serves on the board of the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, the Arden Theater Company and the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson Hospital.
Jill Weber is a professional archaeologist and restaurateur. She sought a career that would allow her to travel, which led to earning a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania. Since 1992, Jill has worked in Syria, Turkey, Armenia, Oman, Iraq, and Italy. Along the way, she gained an intimate knowledge of these countries, their cultures, and native cuisines, which inspired her to open a restaurant back in Philly. She is now the proud founder of Sojourn Philly, consisting of restaurants Jet Wine Bar, Rex 1516, Café Ynez, and (soon!) Sor Ynez. Jill recently developed a radio show, Digging into Dining with Jill Weber, to air on SiriusXM Insight Channel 121
She enjoys sharing her love of wine, history, and culture with others, and is able to combine all three in her monthly wine tastings.
