Reem Assil

Reem Assil is the founder of the Oakland Arab restaurant and bakery Reem’s, which is inspired by her passion for the flavors of Arab street-corner bakeries and the vibrant communities where they’re located. Before dedicating herself to a culinary career, Assil spent a decade as a community and labor organizer, and has worked with the Bay Area’s esteemed cooperative bakery Arizmendi Bakery & Pizzeria, Grace Street Catering, and Local Flavors. She is a 2017 graduate of the food business incubator program La Cocina, where she developed the ideas and resources necessary to make her restaurant dream a reality.
