Meet the Talent

Cynthia Lohr

  • Co-owner & Chief Brand Officer, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines
  •

Cynthia Lohr grew up in her father Jerry's vineyards and cellars, then went and built her own career before coming back to them. She spent a decade in Silicon Valley communications before joining J. Lohr in 2002 as director of communications. Since 2019, as chief brand officer, Cynthia has shaped how the world sees J. Lohr, working across the company's direct-to-consumer, trade, and consumer channels. Her brand-building helped earn J. Lohr Wine Enthusiast's 2010 American Winery of the Year, and she created J. Lohr Touching Lives®, a partnership with National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc® that has funded more than 8,000 mammograms for women who couldn't otherwise afford them.

Cynthia is a founding member and former board vice president of the Paso Robles CAB Collective, and serves on advisory committees for Dream Big Darling, Women of the Vine & Spirits, and the National Breast Cancer Foundation, among others. She was nominated for a 2019 Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Award and named to the San Jose Business Journal's 2021 Top 100 Women of Influence.

Anji Perry

Viticulturist & Vineyard Research Director, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines

Anji Perry started her career at J. Lohr as a viticulture intern in 2004, and today, she oversees viticultural practice and research across the winery's vineyards—translating soil, vine, and climate data into decisions that help each site express its appellation. A soil scientist by training, Anji is also central to J. Lohr's sustainability program, working with the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance to certify every vineyard, winery, and facility the company operates. She partners with university and industry researchers on trials hosted at J. Lohr properties and serves on wine industry boards and committees.

Kristen Barnhisel

Winemaker, White Wine, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines

Kristen Barnhisel has made wine on three continents, and she has been shaping J. Lohr's entire white wine portfolio since 2015. She grew up in Santa Rosa with a microbiologist mother at Simi Winery and a home-winemaker father, but it was a semester in Italy that turned a summer job into a career. Encouraged by family friend and legendary California winemaker Zelma Long, Kristen became the first American, and one of the first women, to work harvest at Ruffino.
She went on to receive a master's in enology at UC Davis, with internships at Warwick Wine Estate in South Africa, Opus One, and Long Vineyard. She’s been an enologist at Columbia Crest, assistant winemaker at Jordan and Belvedere, co-winemaker at Handley Cellars in Anderson Valley, and quality control manager at Inglenook. Kristen served as president of the American Society for Enology and Viticulture from 2019 to 2020, a reflection of the research-minded approach she brings to J. Lohr's cool-climate whites.
